Having data on child health and health care at a sub-state level is important for policy and decision making in Ohio. This chapter includes highlights of child health and health care differences between major metropolitan counties, major areas, and managed care regions in Ohio. Tables in the appendix include all indicators from previous chapters by each geographic area.

More children are overweight or obese in Montgomery County than other major metropolitan counties in Ohio. More children in Hamilton County have asthma than other major metropolitan counties. Children in Cuyahoga County are more likely to have a personal doctor or nurse than in other major metropolitan counties. Children in metropolitan areas overall are more likely to have had a preventive care visit in 2008 than other areas of the state. However, children living in the Appalachian area are more likely to have ever been tested for lead than other areas. Children in Hamilton County are more likely to have visited an emergency room in 2008 than other major metropolitan counties of Ohio.
